monday monday

joe's article

Joe's latest and last of the school year is a great recap/mish-mash of his thoughts on movies in general. The best part is the angry letter from an Orlando Bloom fan, complete with funny spelling mishaps. And I like the Errol Morris reference.

"Manolo Blahnik mary janes? I thought these were an urban shoe myth."
-Carrie, SATC

now with 30% more sarcasm!

Melodrama-They performed Lend Me a Tenor. The set design was lovely with the 1930s flourishes, the physical comedy was in top form and two of my favorites were in the cast. Fun night. They did this thing I've never seen before. After the play itself, they performed a mini one-minute version of the play in fast forward. Pretty cool.

Cutest couple of the week: tie
=Ina and Jeffrey on Barefoot Contessa
=The latest ReadyMade cover couple

+the good
-I'm looking forward to the forthcoming Jon Krasinksi/Mandy Moore movie.
-I discovered another Office fanatic to chat about the show with, a co-watcher as well as a co-worker, I suppose.

-the bad
-My favorite Italian restaurant closed up shop. They had delish minestrone, a cozy atmosphere and the owner was a short man who looked like a cross between Armand Assante and my Grampa. Jeesh.

?the unthinkable
-I am in the preliminary stages of considering to think about not reading US magazine any more.

Movie Scene for the day:
Dustin Hoffman and Lily Tomlin trying to outsprint some sprinklers in I Heart Huckabees! Hilarious.

retail is cool

I spent the night helping teenage bastards and people with open sores on their faces. It was way cool.

Kinda vent-y. Sorry.

i call it karen and jack

Last night's Will and Grace rerun is one of my favorites. They go to dinner at some swanky place and crazy antics/entanglements ensue.

Some funny bits, to me:

Jack: "Isn't that your arch-nemesis/best friend?"
Karen: "This is a nightmare/delightful."

Will points out Grace's missing wedding ring, while she is flirting:

Grace: "It's being resized."
Will: "It's in your pocket, whore!"

Good show. I'll miss it.

wakefield, mi: saturdays at sunday lake and then club 28 (youth)

Pitchfork posted the track listings for the new Sufjan Stevens album, "The Avalanche."

A few examples:

"The Mistress Witch From McClure (Or, The Mind That Knows Itself)"

"Kaskaskia River."

This guy is a piece of work! And I mean that in a good way. I love his neato song titles and to come up with my own daft versions.

oh dear

I had a laugh when I read that Xzibit has "The Living Years" by Mike + the Mechanics on his iPod. Oh dear.

joe revisits lady and the tramp

Lady and the Tramp is probably the best. I also liked Robin Hood, The Rescuers and The Jungle Book. I still remember my Dad driving my cousins Nicky and Clint and I home after The Fox and the Hound. We were huddled, weeping messes all the way home.

Nice Work Joe!

Joe interviewed film critic Roger Ebert last week. Joe is the biggest movie buff since, well, Roger Ebert probably. Nice work Joe! And, might I add, nice sideburns.

reality called. it would like to have a sit-down.

I watched All Over the Guy last night. My friend Matthew refers to it as his "favorite gay movie." It is very cute. It stars Dan Bucatinsky, who is just great. He reminds me of a funny, gay, charming and non-sleazy version of Joey Greco from Cheaters.

As well as being a lovely boy-meets-boy movie, All Over the Guy is high on the list of movies I am thrilled to just happen to find on tv. The top of that list is Office Space as far as I'm concerned. No matter how many times it is on Comedy Central (forty times a week sometimes) I still watch it. Others high up there include Old School, Party Girl and Father of the Bride.

Also watched Jim Gaffigan: Beyond the Pale. Gaffigan is a hoot. Has to be from Minnesota or somewhere close. The hot pockets stuff is super funny.

My parents were recently visiting my brother Joe in Madison. I always enjoy calling the front desk wherever they are staying. Why? Because no matter what the person who answers has the unmistakable Wisconsin/Minnesota/Michigan accent and is also unabashedly friendly. Sometimes I just get sick of the fake, snotty people here in Cali.

haven't seen mallrats in a long time

Weekend Movie/TV Recap:

Slither
It was fun. Pretty gory too. The creepy factor was there too, with Michael Rooker and all. Michael Rooker (Mallrats) scares me to death as is, so imagine him looking like medical waste with horns and tentacles. Yep. My favorite part was Nathan Fillion (Firefly!) playing a small-town cop with cheesey one-liners.

Keane
Damian Lewis is good in this one. Very disturbing.

Barefoot Contessa
A Tiare episode! I'd love to see a reality show (a Queer Eye spinoff type deal perhaps) starring Tiare, Nate Berkus, Tim Gunn and Kyan Douglas.

The Sopranos
Hal Holbrook was great in tonite's ep.
